Key Stage 3 (Year 7-9)
Key Stage 3 at Wilds Lodge School is more than just a stage of education—it is a foundation for future success. By blending academic excellence with therapeutic support and developmental opportunities, we prepare learners to transition confidently into Key Stage 4 and beyond, equipped with the skills, knowledge, and resilience to achieve their goals.
Key Stage 3 is carefully designed to provide a nurturing, supportive setting that acknowledges the challenges learners may face during this transitional period. Our therapeutic framework ensures every child feels safe, valued, and understood.
- Small Class Sizes: With a maximum of 8 learners per class, supported by both a Teaching Assistant (TA) and a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), we maintain an excellent teacher-to-learner ratio. This ensures each child receives individualised attention and support.
- Familiarity and Stability: While lessons are led by subject specialists, learners remain primarily within their class bases. This consistent environment fosters security and a sense of belonging, key to successful learning.
- Time for Transitions: Lessons are structured in 40-minute blocks with transition time, allowing learners to adjust between subjects while remaining centred in their familiar classroom space.
Our curriculum at Key Stage 3 is broad, inclusive, and tailored to support diverse cognitive and learning needs. Learners study core subjects such as Mathematics, English, Science, PE, and PSHE, alongside a rich array of additional subjects:
- Humanities and Global Citizenship: Encouraging a deeper understanding of society, culture, and the world.
- Practical and Vocational Learning: Sessions at our Crossroads site introduce students to mechanics, welding, food technology, construction, and woodwork. These hands-on experiences inspire confidence and equip students with practical skills.
- Outdoor and Environmental Learning: Offering opportunities for personal growth, teamwork, and connection with nature.
This comprehensive curriculum lays the groundwork for learners, parents, and carers to make informed decisions about Key Stage 4 and 5 pathways.
At Key Stage 3, we encourage learners to develop a greater sense of independence and responsibility as they prepare for their next stage of education.
- Assessment and Progress Tracking: Formal termly assessments introduce learners to structured testing, building their confidence in preparation for Key Stage 4 examinations.
- Vocational Awareness: Experiences at the Crossroads site provide insight into potential vocational pathways, empowering students to make informed choices about their futures.
- Life Skills: From teamwork to problem-solving, students gain practical and social skills essential for adulthood.
At Wilds Lodge School, we believe that education should nurture the whole child, going beyond academics to support personal growth and development.
- Emotional Well-Being: Learners are supported in managing emotions, building self-awareness, and cultivating resilience.
- Social and Life Skills: Lessons and activities encourage communication, cooperation, and independence.
- Creative Expression: Opportunities in arts, practical subjects, and outdoor activities allow learners to explore their creativity and build confidence.
- A Lifelong Love of Learning: We strive to inspire curiosity and enthusiasm for learning that lasts a lifetime.
